Being introduced to market about two years ago, the PERSEUS still is in the spotlight and presented in lectures, as during the German fair Ham Radio 2009 or the AMSAT Symposium in the observatory Bochum.
When will you use digital radio technology? The Perseus is a „Software Defined Receiver“. This means central properties of reception, demodulation, use and usability are all controlled by the software.
One example for this would be filters protecting the signal from interference. In place of just a few filters each for only a specific narrow bandwidth, as has been standard so far, now the software itself filters the reception signal.
This allows listeners to tailor bandwidth exactly to each interference condition, modulation and operating mode with no further need for purchasing additional filters or sacrificing reception quality during filter selection.

Perseus - When will you use digital radio technology?

What makes PERSEUS truly revolutionary is a real-time frequency display capable of
spanning a spectrum of up to 1600 kHz. By clicking on individual stations within this spectrum,
they can be selected for listening in unprecedented quality.
What's more, the entire frequency spectrum can be saved to hard drive. In effect, this permits
listening to anything within that spectrum of up to 1600 kHz later on. On top of this, it is also possible
to further adjust the spectrum after recording.

Another part of PERSEUS is a waterfall diagram used for visual tracking of all activity within a spectrum of even up to 40 MHz over an extended period of time.

Technologically, this is achieved by a radical departure from the traditional principle of frequencyoverlap (i.e., superheterodyne). Accordingly, PERSEUS has been designed as a digital direct-sampling receiver. This means you won't have to worry about anything like intermediate frequencies and mixer products. Thanks to its 14-bit analog-to-digital converter, PERSEUS can generate 80 million samples per second at an excellent SNR of 76 dB (for a bandwidth of 40 MHz). To avoid overmodulation, PERSEUS also includes 10 passband filters, a three-stage attenuator (10, 20, 30 dB), plus a dynamic preamplifier with intercept point 3rd order of +30 dbm.
